The member of Orchestra Baobab pays tribute to the origins and culture of his Malian mother with this new song.
After his first single “Yolele” released last May and the single “The Future” with Bala Sidibé released in September, the Senegalese singer and multi-instrumentalist of Orchestra Baobab Cheikh Ibra Fam signs his third solo single “Ayitaria”, accompanied by a warm and catchy video.
“Ayitaria” is a word in the Bambara language associated with the Guéré dance meaning “come quickly”. The term is used to call people to attend an exceptional event, not to be missed. In this song, Cheikh transcribes this call to gather in Bambara while keeping the Guéré rhythm of the dance that accompanies it in the video.
The track also features Senegalese Cheikh Lô, who shares with Ibra Fam the spirit of baye fall, a Senegalese culture that advocates simplicity, sharing and humility of the soul, as well as Baboulaye Cissokho (Youssou N’Dour, Baaba Maal, Orchestra Baobab) on the kora and Mamy Kanouté (Baaba Maal) on the backing vocals, which add a Mandingo colour to the track.
